A Quick Thought on Independence Day
(By Nathan Busenitz)http://www.sfpulpit.com/2008/07/04/a-quick-thought-on-independence-day/
It’s Independence Day. And there is perhaps no better day than today to remember the words of 1 Timothy 2:1–2:
First of all, then, I urge that entreaties and prayers, petitions and thanksgivings, be made on behalf of all men, for kings and all who are in authority, so that we may lead a tranquil and quiet life in all godliness and dignity.
This would not only apply to our Republican President, but also to our Democratically-controlled congress, our judicial system, our state representatives, and even our local mayors, supervisors, and councilmembers.
Instead of listening to political talk radio today, getting angry at this politician or that policymaker, why not spend those same moments praying for the government officials that God has placed over us? If Paul could pray for his leaders (including guys like Nero), we certainly have no excuse for neglecting to pray for ours.
