Loving Christ in Sincerity. Being Diligent in Training.

(by: me)

That our sons may be as plants grown up in their youth; That our daughters may be as pillars, sculptured in palace style; That our barns may be full, supplying all kinds of produce; that our sheep may bring forth thousands and ten thousands in our fields; That our oxen may be well laden; That there be no breaking in or going out; That there be no outcry in our streets. Happy are the people who are in such a state; Happy are the people whose God is the Lord! (Psalms 144:12-15. NKJV.)

The younger children in my home have, until last Wednesday, been working on John Piper’s “Children Desiring God” mid week curriculum. With summer quickly approaching and their academic curriculum coming to a close, they have also completed their “Children Desiring God” lessons. Which left me with a burning question: What next?

All of the children in my household face a difficult challenge. Only one parent is a follower of Christ. The other parent, and head of household for that matter, does not have a faith commitment of any kind. I know that only the Holy Spirit can persuade these children to follow Christ however I also feel I must do my part and train them up in the ways of the Lord so they will never depart from them (Proverbs 22:6).

So back to the important and lingering query: What next? Well, I had received two referrals from dear sisters in Christ regarding a curriculum by Pam Forster. The program for girls and young ladies is “Polished Cornerstones” and the one for boys and young men is “Plants Grown Up”. In an effort to keep the down time as limited as possible between courses I went ahead and ordered the syllabus. Wow! I had no idea how thick the program of study was going to be…I am hopeful it is as meaty as it is bulky.

…And beside this, giving all diligence, add to your faith virtue; and to virtue knowledge; and to knowledge temperance; and to temperance patience; and to patience godliness; and to godliness brotherly kindness; and to brotherly kindness charity. For if these things be in you, and abound, they make you that ye shall neither be barren nor unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ. (2 Peter 1:5-8).

Galatians 6:7-9: Do not be deceived, God is not mocked; for whatever a man sows, that he will also reap. For he who sows to his flesh will of the flesh reap corruption, but he who sows to the Spirit will of the Spirit reap everlasting life. And let us not grow weary while doing good, for in due season we shall reap if we do not lose heart.
