The Lord is My Banner

Then Amalek came and fought with Israel at Rephidim. 9So Moses said to Joshua, "Choose for us men, and go out and fight with Amalek. Tomorrow I will stand on the top of the hill with the staff of God in my hand." 10So Joshua did as Moses told him, and fought with Amalek, while Moses, Aaron, and Hur went up to the top of the hill. 11Whenever Moses held up his hand, Israel prevailed, and whenever he lowered his hand, Amalek prevailed. 12But Moses’ hands grew weary, so they took a stone and put it under him, and he sat on it, while Aaron and Hur held up his hands, one on one side, and the other on the other side. So his hands were steady until the going down of the sun. 13And Joshua overwhelmed Amalek and his people with the sword.

14Then the LORD said to Moses, "Write this as a memorial in a book and recite it in the ears of Joshua, that I will utterly blot out the memory of Amalek from under heaven." 15And Moses built an altar and called the name of it, The LORD Is My Banner, 16saying, "A hand upon the throne of the LORD! The LORD will have war with Amalek from generation to generation.
(Exodus 17:8-16. ESV.)

Before I started reading the MACARTHUR DAILY BIBLE today, I prayed saying, "Thank you, Father, for access to your word." Then the thought of many people without the scriptures at their fingertips entered my mind. My heart felt sad for those who desire God and Christ but cannot partake of the gospels.

Next, I reflected upon persecution... having received a taste of this form of evil and ugliness, I am very empathetic toward (and my heart calls out to my King on behalf of) those who suffer because of their love for God and Christ, their want to be in His word every day, and to know Him better.

The Lord is my banner. Let all who see it know without a doubt whose rule I am under and to fight against those beneath this banner is to battle against Him. All honor and glory are His.

In their book EXPERIENCING GOD, Blackaby, Blackaby, and King wrote,
"At times as I prayed about [my young daughter] Carrie [who suffered terribly through Hodgkins Disease and treatment], I would see that behind her and her illness stood the cross of Jesus Christ. I said, 'Father, don't ever let me look at my difficult circumstances and question Your love for me. Your love was forever settled on the cross....' (p.20)

"...I can trust in the love Christ proved to me when He laid down His life for me on the cross. In the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ, God forever convinced me that He loves me...." (p.22)

God’s word says,
Counsel in the heart of man is like deep water. (Proverbs 20:5.)
John MacArthur explains this scripture with, "The wise man has keen discernment reaching to the deepest intentions of the heart to grasp wise counsel (18:4; Hebrews 4:12)."

For the word of God is living and active, sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing to the division of soul and of spirit, of joints and of marrow, and discerning the thoughts and intentions of the heart. (Hebrews 4:12. ESV.)
