As the Waters Cover the Sea

At church this past weekend, the pastor gave a fantastic illustration of contrast to the life of a follower of Christ.  He quoted lyrics to the Frank Sinatra song "My Way" which have been scrolling through my mind ever since as the weight and sadness of the words continue to wash over me like the pounding waves of the ocean.  The song goes like this:

And now, the end is here
And so I face the final curtain
My friend, I'll say it clear
I'll state my case, of which I'm certain
I've lived a life that's full
I traveled each and ev'ry highway
And more, much more than this, I did it my way

Regrets, I've had a few
But then again, too few to mention
I did what I had to do and saw it through without exemption
I planned each charted course, each careful step along the byway
And more, much more than this, I did it my way...

For what is a man, what has he got?
If not himself, then he has naught
To say the things he truly feels and not the words of one who kneels
The record shows I took the blows and did it my way!

Yes, it was my way.

My heart is heavy and burdened for anyone who feels as Sinatra did on this matter and I beseech God that they may have eyes to see and ears to hear.  I pray they may be filled with the Holy Spirit to overflowing and turn away from all doubt and unbelief.

14 For the earth will be filled
with the knowledge of the glory of the LORD
as the waters cover the sea.
(Habakkuk 2:14. ESV.)
