3 Does God pervert justice?
Or does the Almighty pervert the right? (Job 8:3. ESV.)
I might be biting off more than I can chew with this one but I could not help but wonder about how our God is a just God. Is it a cause and effect type thing, or what? Because, to tell ya the truth, there are days when I feel I am reaping the consequences for some of my actions before I was given God's grace.
12 Of a truth, God will not do wickedly,
and the Almighty will not pervert justice. (Job 34:12. ESV.)
Genesis 18:25: Far be it from you to do such a thing, to put the righteous to death with the wicked, so that the righteous fare as the wicked! Far be that from you! Shall not the Judge of all the earth do what is just?"
Deuteronomy 32:4: "The Rock, his work is perfect,
for all his ways are justice.
A God of faithfulness and without iniquity,
just and upright is he.
Daniel 9:14: Therefore the LORD has kept ready the calamity and has brought it upon us, for the LORD our God is righteous in all the works that he has done, and we have not obeyed his voice.
Justice as a Consequence? (Old Testament)
Adam and Eve were specifically told by God, himself (no less!), NOT to eat the fruit of the tree of knowledge. After doing so anyway, they were booted out of the Garden of Eden. They sinned and were punished. But this was before Jesus and the atonement, in a time when God's no tolerance policy was in full effect!
Justice in Response to Evil (New Testament)
6 since indeed God considers it just to repay with affliction those who afflict you,(2 Thessalonians 1:6. ESV.)
So, God's justice is in His vengeance? "Repaying" the evil that is dished out by those who do not believe in Him?
Exodus 23:22: "But if you carefully obey his voice and do all that I say, then I will be an enemy to your enemies and an adversary to your adversaries.
Joel 3:4: "What are you to me, O Tyre and Sidon, and all the regions of Philistia? Are you paying me back for something? If you are paying me back, I will return your payment on your own head swiftly and speedily.
Joel 3:7: Behold, I will stir them up from the place to which you have sold them, and I will return your payment on your own head.
