Word-ful Wednesday

I have been largely absent from this blog for the past three months, not because I have nothing to say or have abandoned this space but, because I have been working on a project for the last six months or so. It still has a long way to go but I have high hopes, or maybe average hopes, for it. Anyway, I also feel like switching to poetry. It has been a long time since I have written any poetic verse so, it will be a process and a bit rusty in the beginning. But, I will not accomplish anything by standing still, so…

The river whispers my name.
I stand beside the water’s edge.
The surface is calm and shines like glass.
It is a mirror reflecting the painted sky and lush trees.
They dip their underbrush low to feel its cold depths.
Their higher branches wave in the breeze and greet the sky.

I dig my toes into the sand warmed by the sun.
The cool dampness lies just below the surface.
It stays hidden from the light…

(Maybe I'll finish that, sometime. Maybe not.)

Warm-up 02:

His silhouette emerged from the darkness.
Light from the gas street lamp cascaded across his face and down his body.
A long coat swallowed his figure.
It left no clue as to what she might find underneath…

(Hum, I can't seem to stay focused. Moving on, now, to work on my project.)
